History of Morazan’s Day in Honduras and How to Celebrate/ Observe It
Morazan’s Day is a national holiday in Honduras that commemorates the life and death of General Francisco Morazan. Morazan was a Central American leader who fought for the unification of the region during the 19th century. He was born in Honduras and later became the President of the Federal Republic of Central America, which comprised present-day Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Guatemala. Morazan’s efforts to unify the region were ultimately unsuccessful, and he was executed by firing squad in San Jose, Costa Rica in 1842. His martyrdom made him a symbol of Honduran nationalism, and his birthday, October 3, is celebrated as Morazan’s Day.
