History of St Mary’s Day in Romania and How to Celebrate/ Observe It
St. Mary’s Day, or the Dormition of the Theotokos, is one of the most important holidays in the Romanian Orthodox Church calendar. It falls on August 15th, and celebrates the death and Assumption of the Virgin Mary into Heaven. This holiday has special meaning for Romanians, as it is believed that Mary appeared in the country in the year 1291, and her apparition is said to have miracles associated with it.
