Chulalongkorn Day is a national holiday in Thailand that commemorates the life and work of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), who is considered one of the country’s greatest kings. The holiday is celebrated on October 23, the king’s birthday.
King Chulalongkorn was born in 1853 and ascended to the throne in 1868, at the age of 15. He ruled for 42 years, until his death in 1910. During his reign, King Chulalongkorn made many reforms that modernized Thailand and helped it to become a leading nation in Southeast Asia. He also worked to reduce the power of the nobility and to promote education and modernization among his people.
King Chulalongkorn was highly respected by the Thai people and is still revered today.
