History of Eid al-Adha in Kuwait and How to Celebrate/ Observe It
Eid al-Adha, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice”, is one of the most important holidays in Islam. It is celebrated every year on the 10th day of the month of Dhul Hijjah (the last month of the Islamic calendar).
The holiday commemorates the story of Abraham and his willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael at God’s command. Although Abraham was prepared to go through with the sacrifice, God intervened and provided a lamb to sacrifice instead.
Today, Eid al-Adha is celebrated by Muslims all over the world with special prayers, feasts and celebrations. In Kuwait, the holiday is celebrated with large family gatherings, special meals and gifts. Many people also travel to Mecca to perform the Hajj pilgrimage during this time.
