In Mexico, Halloween is called “Día de los Muertos” which translates to “Day of the Dead.” This holiday is celebrated on October 31st and November 1st. It’s a time to remember and honor loved ones who have passed away.
People believe that on this day, the spirits of the dead come back to visit us. So, they prepare altars with pictures of the deceased, their favorite foods and drinks, and flowers. Candles are also lit to help guide the spirits back home.
Families will often visit the graves of their loved ones and clean them up. They’ll also leave offerings like food, water, and cigarettes.
