International Animation Day

International Animation Day may be something you want to learn more about, and we want to help with that.

Let's dive deeper into learning more about the history of International Animation Day and why people celebrate or observe it.

History of International Animation Day and How to Celebrate/ Observe It

International Animation Day is celebrated every year on October 28th. The day was first established in 2002 by the International Animated Film Association (ASIFA) to recognize the art form of animation and its contribution to culture and society. Every year, ASIFA organizes events and screenings around the world to mark the occasion.

This year, International Animation Day falls on a Saturday, so there are sure to be plenty of festivities taking place. In Los Angeles, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will be hosting a special event called “Animation in Focus.” The event will feature a screening of Walt Disney’s classic film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, followed by a panel discussion with some of today’s top animators.

Other events taking place around the world include a retrospective of the work of Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki in Paris, a screening of the Oscar-nominated short film Feast in London, and a celebration of the life and work of legendary animator Chuck Jones in New York.

So whether you’re an animation fan or just looking for something fun to do on a Saturday, be sure to check out one of the many International Animation Day events happening near you.
