The origins of Labor Day date back to the late 19th century, when workers in the United States and other countries were campaigning for better working conditions and shorter work hours. In 1886, a major strike by workers in Chicago led to the establishment of the first ever Labor Day parade in the US. The parade was held on May 1st, and soon became an annual event.
