Let's dive deeper into learning more about the history of National Cat Day and why people celebrate or observe it.
History of National Cat Day and How to Celebrate/ Observe It
National Cat Day is a holiday created in 2005 by animal welfare advocate Colleen Paige. It is celebrated on October 29th in the United States, and its purpose is to raise awareness of the plight of homeless cats, promote adoption, and encourage responsible pet ownership.
There are an estimated 60 million homeless cats in the United States. Of these, only about 3% will find their way into shelters, and of those, less than half will be adopted. The rest will either be euthanized or die of exposure or starvation.
Cats make great pets and can be wonderful companions, but they do require some care and attention. Before adopting a cat, be sure you are prepared to provide it with a safe, loving home.
