Portugal Day, also known as Dia de Portugal, is celebrated on June 10th each year in Portugal. The holiday commemorates the death of national hero Luís de Camões, who is considered to be one of the country’s greatest poets. The day is also a celebration of Portuguese culture and heritage, with many traditional festivities taking place across the country. In Lisbon, the capital city, there is a large parade which passes through the streets, followed by a grand firework display in the evening. Other celebrations include folk dancing, music and food festivals, and street parties.
