Saint Kliment Ohridski’s Day is a national holiday in North Macedonia. It is celebrated on 24 May, the day when Saint Kliment of Ohrid was born in 893 AD. Saint Kliment is the patron saint of the Macedonian Orthodox Church and one of the most important figures in the country’s history. He was a monk and theologian who played a key role in the development of the Cyrillic alphabet and the spread of Christianity in the Slavic world. Saint Kliment’s Day is marked with religious ceremonies and cultural events. In Skopje, the capital city, a special mass is held at the Saint Kliment Ohridski Cathedral, followed by a procession to the gravesite of Saint Kliment at the monastery of Saint Naum.
