SUDEP Action Day ― Date, History, and Details

SUDEP Action Day

SUDEP Action Day may be something you want to learn more about, and we want to help with that.

Let's dive deeper into learning more about the history of SUDEP Action Day and why people celebrate or observe it.

History of SUDEP Action Day and How to Celebrate/ Observe It

SUDEP Action Day is a day of action and awareness-raising for sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP). It is an opportunity for the epilepsy community to come together to remember those we have lost to SUDEP, to support families and individuals affected by SUDEP, and to raise awareness of this preventable tragedy. This year’s theme is “Preventing SUDEP: Together We Can”.

On SUDEP Action Day, we remember those we have lost to SUDEP and stand with those who are living with epilepsy. We also recommit to taking action to prevent SUDEP.

There are many things that can be done to reduce the risk of SUDEP. These include:

• Managing epilepsy effectively to reduce the number and severity of seizures

• Identifying and addressing factors that may increase the risk of SUDEP

• Taking precautions to reduce the risk of injury or death during a seizure

• Learning CPR and having a plan in place in case of a seizure

• Talking about SUDEP with your doctor, family, and friends

Together, we can prevent SUDEP.
