International Red Panda Day ― Date, History, and Details

International Red Panda Day

International Red Panda Day may be something you want to learn more about, and we want to help with that.

Let's dive deeper into learning more about the history of International Red Panda Day and why people celebrate or observe it.

History of International Red Panda Day and How to Celebrate/ Observe It

In 2005, the Red Panda Network (RPN) established International Red Panda Day to celebrate one of the world’s most charismatic and beloved species. The holiday falls on September 21st, the autumnal equinox in the Northern Hemisphere, when red pandas begin their mating season.

International Red Panda Day is a day to appreciate red pandas and learn about the threats they face in the wild. Red pandas are native to the Himalayas and southern China, but their habitat is rapidly disappearing due to deforestation and other human activity. As a result, red pandas are now considered an endangered species.

There are only an estimated 2,500 to 3,000 red pandas left in the wild, so it’s important to do what we can to protect them. On International Red Panda Day, people around the world can take action to help red pandas by supporting conservation efforts, spreading awareness about the threats they face, and donating to organizations working to save them.
