History of Buddha’s First Sermon in Bhutan and How to Celebrate/ Observe It
In his first sermon, the Buddha taught the Four Noble Truths: that suffering is an inherent part of life; that the cause of suffering is desire; that suffering can be alleviated by eliminating desire; and that this can be accomplished through following the Eightfold Path. The Buddha then gave his famous teaching on the Middle Way, which advocates avoiding extremes of self-indulgence and self-mortification. This sermon was delivered in the Deer Park at Isipatana near Benares, and marks the beginning of the Buddhist religion.
