Ataturk Commemoration Day, also known as Atatürk’s Memorial Day or Youth and Sports Day, is an official public holiday in Turkey that celebrates the life and legacy of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder and first President of the Republic of Turkey. The day was officially declared by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey on November 10th, 1953, and is celebrated every year on May 19th.
On this day, Turks commemorate the life and legacy of Atatürk with parades, military salutes, and other ceremonies held throughout the country. In the main cities, such as Istanbul and Ankara, people gather in the large squares to watch military parades and listen to speeches honoring Atatürk.
