Buy Nothing Day is an annual event where people are encouraged to boycott all purchases for 24 hours, in order to raise awareness about the negative impact of consumerism on the environment and society. The day was founded in 1992 by Canadian artist Ted Dave, and has since been celebrated in over 60 countries around the world. It usually falls on the Friday after Thanksgiving in the United States, and on the last Saturday of November in Canada.
