Carnival is a two-day event that takes place on the first Monday and Tuesday of August. It is a celebration of Grenada’s independence from Britain, which was achieved on August 7, 1974. The Carnival festivities begin with a street parade on the Monday morning, featuring costumed dancers and musicians. This is followed by a day of music and dancing at the main carnival grounds. On the Tuesday, there is another street parade, as well as a boat parade on the Grenada Grenadines. Carnival comes to an end with a grand finale on the Tuesday night, featuring a fireworks display.
