The Day of the Gorans is an annual public holiday in Kosovo. It is celebrated on 13 May and commemorates the Battle of Kosovo which took place on that date in 1389. The battle was fought between the Ottoman Empire and a coalition of Christian forces from Serbia, Bosnia, Bulgaria and Montenegro. The Ottomans emerged victorious and went on to conquer most of the Balkans. The Day of the Gorans is a day for Kosovans to remember their history and heritage.
