Daylight Saving Time (DST) starts in Cyprus on the last Sunday of March and ends on the last Sunday of October. During DST, the clocks are moved forward by one hour, resulting in longer evenings and shorter mornings.
DST was first introduced in Cyprus in 1974 in order to save energy during the summer months. It was then abandoned in 1975 due to public opposition. DST was reintroduced in 1986 and has been in place since then.
There is currently no daylight saving time in the Republic of Cyprus. However, the northern part of the island, which is under Turkish military occupation, does observe DST. This can cause confusion for people travelling between the two areas.
