History of Heritage Day and How to Celebrate/ Observe It

Heritage Day is a national holiday in South Africa that celebrates the country’s cultural diversity. It is held on 24 September, the date on which the country’s first democratically elected president, Nelson Mandela, was born. The day is also known as National Braai Day, as it is traditionally a day for family and friends to get together and enjoy a meal of grilled meat.
