The Syrian Independence Day is an annual holiday that celebrates the country’s independence from France. It is celebrated on April 17th.
Syria gained independence from France in 1946, after a period of mandate. A referendum was held on March 30th, 1946, in which the people of Syria voted overwhelmingly in favor of independence.
The following year, Syria declared itself a republic, with Shukri al-Quwatli as its first president. Since then, Syria has been through many changes, including several military coups and periods of instability.
However, the country has always celebrated its independence on April 17th. This date is also marked by other celebrations, such as the Day of the Martyrs, which honors those who have died for Syria’s freedom.
