History of Juneteenth and How to Celebrate/ Observe It
Juneteenth is an American holiday that commemorates the emancipation of slaves in the United States. It is also known as Freedom Day, Liberation Day, or Emancipation Day. It is observed annually on June 19, the day that Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that all slaves were free. While slaves in other parts of the country had been freed earlier, this was the first time that slaves in Texas were notified of their freedom.
