The Kentucky Oaks is a Thoroughbred horse race held annually in Louisville, Kentucky, United States on the Friday before the Kentucky Derby. The Grade I race is open to three-year-old fillies and is run over a distance of 1⅛ miles (9 furlongs) at Churchill Downs.
The race currently offers a purse of $1.25 million. It is the second leg of the American Triple Crown for fillies, and is sometimes referred to as “The Run for the Lilies” because a garland of 554 lilies, or “Oaks”, is awarded to the winner. The winning filly receives a silver trophy.
