History of Labour Day in Seychelles and How to Celebrate/ Observe It

The Seychelles’ Labour Day is celebrated on the first Monday of May every year. It is a public holiday in the country. The day commemorates the signing of the first labour agreement in the Seychelles which took place on the 1st of May, 1903 between the Plantation Owners Association and the Seychelles Labour Union. The agreement regulated the working conditions and hours of workers in the plantations.

Today, the day is used to celebrate the achievements of the workers in the country and to recognise their contribution to the economy. A number of events and activities are organised on the day, including a parade, speeches, and cultural performances.
