History of National Flip Flop Day and How to Celebrate/ Observe It

National Flip Flop Day is a day to celebrate summer and show your support for beaches and coastal conservation. It’s also a day to go barefoot, or wear your favorite flip flops to work, school, or just around town.

This fun summer holiday was started in 2007 by the Surfrider Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world’s oceans, waves, and beaches. National Flip Flop Day is now celebrated annually on the first Friday in June.

So why flip flops? For starters, they’re the quintessential summer footwear. But more importantly, flip flops represent the laid-back, carefree lifestyle that we all crave during the hot summer months.

So whether you’re hitting the beach or just hanging out in your backyard, make sure to put on your flip flops and celebrate National Flip Flop Day!
