History of National Poinsettia Day and How to Celebrate/ Observe It
December 12th is National Poinsettia Day! This day celebrates the beautiful and popular poinsettia plant. The poinsettia is native to Mexico, and was brought to the United States in the 1820s by Joel Robert Poinsett, our country’s first ambassador to Mexico. The plant was named after him.
Poinsettias are most often red, but can also be pink, white, or yellow. They are traditionally used as Christmas decorations, and are said to represent the Star of Bethlehem.
Today, you can celebrate National Poinsettia Day by buying or giving a poinsettia plant, or simply enjoying their beauty!
