Pioneer Day is a state holiday in Utah in the United States. It is observed on July 24, in commemoration of the entry of Brigham Young and the first group of Mormon pioneers into the Salt Lake Valley in 1847.
Pioneer Day is celebrated with parades, fireworks, pioneer treks (which reenact the journey made by the pioneers), concerts, and other events throughout Utah. Many people also take the opportunity to visit historical sites related to the Mormon pioneers.
The holiday has been celebrated since 1849, when Young and the pioneers held a special day of thanksgiving to commemorate their safe arrival in the valley. Pioneer Day was made an official holiday in Utah in 1852.
