History of Shushan Purim (Jerusalem) in Israel and How to Celebrate/ Observe It
Shushan Purim, which is also known as Jerusalem Purim, is a holiday that celebrates the deliverance of the Jewish people from Haman’s plot to exterminate them. It is observed on the 14th day of the Hebrew month of Adar, which falls in February or March.
The story of Purim takes place in the ancient Persian Empire. At that time, the Jews were a minority group who were often persecuted by the majority Persian population.
One of the most notorious persecutors was Haman, an advisor to the Persian king. Haman hatched a plot to kill all the Jews in the empire.
Fortunately, Queen Esther, who was herself Jewish, was able to thwart Haman’s plan and save her people. The Jews were then able to defend themselves and defeat their enemies.
