History of Sukkot (Day 1) in Israel and How to Celebrate/ Observe It
Sukkot is a Jewish holiday that celebrates the harvest and commemorates the time when the Israelites lived in temporary shelters during their 40 years in the desert. The holiday is observed for seven days, beginning on the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Tishrei. On the first day of Sukkot, worshippers gather in synagogues for special holiday services. They also decorate the inside and outside of their homes with greenery and build temporary shelters, called sukkahs, in which they eat their meals and sometimes sleep during the holiday.
