History of Our Lady of Los Ángeles in Costa Rica and How to Celebrate/ Observe It
The story of Our Lady of Los Angeles in Costa Rica begins in 1635 when a statue of the Virgin Mary was brought to the country from Spain. The statue was placed in the village of Cartago, which was then the capital of Costa Rica. Over the years, the statue became known for its miraculous healing powers, and many people made pilgrimages to Cartago to pray for healing. In 1737, an earthquake destroyed much of the village, but the statue of the Virgin Mary remained unscathed. This was seen as a miracle, and the statue became even more revered. In 1824, another earthquake struck Costa Rica, this time causing serious damage to the statue of Our Lady of Los Angeles. However, once again, the statue survived without a scratch. The people of Costa Rica believe that the Virgin Mary protects them from earthquakes and other natural disasters, and she is still venerated today.
