On the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, Costa Ricans attend mass and participate in processions honoring the Virgin Mary. Many Costa Ricans also take the opportunity to visit the Basilica of Our Lady of the Angels, which houses a statue of the Virgin Mary that was brought to Costa Rica from Spain in the early 19th century.
