Santa Rosa de Lima is a town in the central highlands of Peru. It is the capital of the province of Huarochirí in the Lima Region. The town is located about 80 kilometers east of Lima, the country’s capital. Santa Rosa de Lima is a popular tourist destination for its colonial-era architecture and its nearby ruins of the Inca site of Pachacamac.
The town was founded in 1586 by Spanish colonist Francisco Pizarro. It was named after Saint Rose of Lima, the first Catholic saint from the Americas. Santa Rosa de Lima is known as the “City of Roses” because of the large number of rose bushes that grow in the area. The city’s main square, Plaza de Armas, is surrounded by colonial-style buildings with balconies adorned with roses.
Every year on August 30, the city celebrates the feast day of Santa Rosa de Lima with a procession and festival. The event attracts visitors from all over Peru and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the country.
