History of Canada Day and How to Celebrate/ Observe It
Canada Day is a federal holiday in Canada that celebrates the anniversary of the July 1, 1867, enactment of the Constitution Act, 1867, which united three colonies into a single country called Canada within the British Empire. Originally called Dominion Day, the holiday was renamed in 1982, the year the Canada Act was passed.
Celebrations typically include flag-waving, parades, concerts, bonfires, fireworks and citizenship ceremonies. There are also many community events, such as festivals, barbecues and carnivals.
In 2017, Canada will celebrate its 150th anniversary of Confederation. Many special events and celebrations are planned across the country to mark this historic occasion.
