Carnival Friday is the day when revellers in Rio de Janeiro take to the streets to celebrate the start of the Carnival season. The party starts early in the morning and goes on into the early hours of the following morning. revellers dress up in costumes and masks and dance to the samba music that blares from the sound systems set up along the route. Many of the participants are members of the city’s samba schools, which compete against each other in the annual Carnival parade.
