Cheongwoldaeboreum is a North Korean national holiday that celebrates the birthday of Kim Jong-un, the country’s supreme leader. It is also known as the Day of the Shining Star. The holiday is observed on January 8, the date of Kim Jong-un’s birth in 1982.
On Cheongwoldaeboreum, North Koreans celebrate by hanging banners and posters bearing slogans praising Kim Jong-un, and by attending rallies and other events honoring the supreme leader. Gifts are often given to children on this day, and special meals are prepared in honor of Kim Jong-un’s birthday.
