Corpus Christi is a coastal city in the South Texas region of the United States. The county seat of Nueces County, it also extends into Aransas, Kleberg, and San Patricio Counties. It is 130 miles southeast of San Antonio. Its political boundaries include the cities of Portland and Ingleside to the north, Robstown to the west, and Flour Bluff to the south. The Corpus Christi metropolitan area has an estimated population of 442,600, making it the eighth-largest metropolitan area in the state. The Port of Corpus Christi is the fifth-largest in the United States. Corpus Christi is named for the Feast of Corpus Christi, which honors the Body of Christ. It is nicknamed “The Sparkling City by the Sea”, particularly because of the presence of seawater in the city’s bay.
