History of Diwali/Deepavali in Pakistan and How to Celebrate/ Observe It
Diwali, or Deepavali, is a popular Hindu festival that is celebrated in Pakistan. The festival commemorates the return of Lord Rama to his kingdom after defeating Ravana, the demon king. Diwali is also known as the “festival of lights” because Hindus decorate their homes and temples with oil lamps and candles. The five-day festival begins on the 13th day of the Hindu month of Kartik and ends on the 17th day. On the first day, Hindus perform a puja, or worship ceremony, to Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. They also light oil lamps and candles around their homes. On the second day, they worship Lord Ganesh, the god of good luck. On the third day, they worship Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge. On the fourth day, they celebrate the marriage of Lord Rama and Sita. On the fifth day, they celebrate the victory of Lord Rama over Ravana. Hindus in Pakistan also exchange gifts and sweets during Diwali.
