Foundation Day is a public holiday celebrated in the Australian state of Western Australia on the first Monday in June. It commemorates the day on which the Swan River Colony was founded in 1829. The holiday was originally known as “New Year’s Day” and was later renamed “Anniversary Day”. In 1994, it was renamed “Foundation Day”.
