History of International Civil Aviation Day and How to Celebrate/ Observe It
In 1994, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) declared December 7th as International Civil Aviation Day. The ICAO is a specialized agency of the United Nations that codifies the principles and techniques of international air navigation and fosters the planning and development of international air transport to ensure safe and orderly growth.
The purpose of International Civil Aviation Day is to generate and reinforce worldwide awareness of the importance of international civil aviation to the social and economic development of States, and of the role ICAO plays in helping States to manage their civil aviation affairs.
Each year on International Civil Aviation Day, ICAO Member States and aviation organizations around the world celebrate the day with events and activities that highlight the many benefits that civil aviation brings to our lives.
International Civil Aviation Day also provides an opportunity for ICAO and its Member States to reaffirm their commitment to the continuous improvement of global aviation safety and the efficiency of air transport operations.
