History of International Day of the Nacho and How to Celebrate/ Observe It

The International Day of the Nacho is celebrated annually on November 6th. The day commemorates the dish of nachos, which are tortilla chips covered in cheese and other toppings.

Nachos were first created in 1943 by Ignacio “Nacho” Anaya, a Mexican maître d’hôtel. Anaya was working at the Victory Club in Piedras Negras, Mexico when a group of soldiers came in looking for a snack. Anaya quickly improvised a dish of fried tortillas covered in shredded cheese and jalapeño peppers. He named the dish “nachos especiales” and it was an instant hit with the soldiers.

The dish of nachos has since become a popular appetizer or snack all over the world. On the International Day of the Nacho, people celebrate by eating nachos and sharing recipes.
