National Johnny Appleseed Day is celebrated on September 26 in the United States. The day honors John Chapman, better known as Johnny Appleseed. Chapman was born in Leominster, Massachusetts, on September 26, 1774. He was a pioneer nurseryman who introduced apple trees to large parts of Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. Chapman traveled extensively, planting apple seeds wherever he went. He also preached about peace and love, and was known for his kindness to animals and children.
Chapman died on March 18, 1845, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Today, National Johnny Appleseed Day is a time to celebrate Chapman’s life and legacy. Many schools and organizations hold special events, including apple-themed parties, crafts, and games. Some people also take this opportunity to plant their own apple trees!
