History of Polytechneio in Greece and How to Celebrate/ Observe It

Polytechneio was a school in Greece during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It was founded in 1837 by Georgios Polytexneios, a Greek banker and politician. The school was originally located in the town of Smyrna (now İzmir), but moved to Athens in 1871. Polytechneio offered a wide range of subjects, including literature, philosophy, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and political science.

The school was highly respected and its graduates went on to have successful careers in various fields. Many of Greece’s leading politicians, scientists, and intellectuals were educated at Polytechneio. The school played an important role in the development of Modern Greek culture and society.

Polytechneio was closed down by the military junta that ruled Greece from 1967 to 1974. The junta saw the school as a symbol of the left-wing intellectual elite that they opposed. The Polytechneio campus is now home to the National Technical University of Athens.
