History of Three Kings Day and How to Celebrate/ Observe It

Three Kings Day is celebrated on January 6th and is also known as the Epiphany. It commemorates the day that the three wise men, or Magi, visited the baby Jesus. In many cultures, it is considered the end of the Christmas season.

The wise men were said to have followed a star to find Jesus. They brought him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. The story of the Three Kings is told in the Bible in the book of Matthew.

Today, many people celebrate Three Kings Day with a special meal or by giving gifts. In some countries, a holiday parade is held with people dressed up as the three wise men.

In Puerto Rico, children often leave out shoes on Three Kings Day Eve, in hopes that the three kings will fill them with presents. In Mexico, a popular tradition is to make a Rosca de Reyes, a special cake that has a baby Jesus figurine hidden inside. Whoever finds the baby Jesus in their piece of cake is said to have good luck for the year.
