In Brazil, Tiradentes Day is celebrated on April 21st. This date marks the anniversary of the execution of Tiradentes, a Brazilian revolutionary who fought for independence from Portugal. Tiradentes was born in Rio de Janeiro to a family of Portuguese descent. He studied dentistry and pharmacy, but he later became involved in politics and joined the movement for independence. In 1789, he was arrested and sentenced to death for his part in a plot to overthrow the Portuguese government. He was executed by hanging on April 21, 1792. Today, Tiradentes is considered a national hero in Brazil, and his martyrdom is commemorated with public holidays and celebrations.
