The history of Yorkshire Day dates back to 1975, when a group of local businessmen came up with the idea to promote the county. They chose 1st August as the date for the celebrations, as it is the anniversary of the Battle of Minden – a significant victory for the Yorkshire Regiment during the Seven Years’ War.
