World Ranger Day ― Date, History, and Details

World Ranger Day

World Ranger Day may be something you want to learn more about, and we want to help with that.

Let's dive deeper into learning more about the history of World Ranger Day and why people celebrate or observe it.

History of World Ranger Day and How to Celebrate/ Observe It

Every year on July 31, World Ranger Day celebrates the work of rangers around the world who risk their lives to protect our planet’s wildlife and wild places.

Rangers are the unsung heroes of conservation. They work in some of the most remote and dangerous places on earth, often for little pay and little recognition. Yet they persevere, because they know that their efforts are vital to the survival of the world’s wildlife and wild places.

World Ranger Day was created in 2007 by the International Ranger Federation (IRF) to recognize the important work that rangers do and to remember those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Since then, it has been celebrated annually by ranger groups, conservation organizations, and members of the public around the world.

This year, World Ranger Day falls on a Saturday, so there will be events and activities taking place all weekend long. Check out the IRF website for a list of events in your area, or if you can’t make it to an event, consider making a donation to a ranger organization of your choice.

No matter how you choose to celebrate, take a moment on July 31 to appreciate the courage and dedication of the men and women who risk their lives to protect our planet’s wildlife and wild places.
