History of All Souls’ Day in Costa Rica and How to Celebrate/ Observe It
All Souls’ Day is a Catholic holiday that commemorates the dead. It is celebrated every year on November 2. In Costa Rica, it is known as Día de los Difuntos.
On this day, people visit the graves of their loved ones and decorate them with flowers and candles. They also say prayers and Mass is held in cemeteries.
In some parts of the country, there is a tradition of making “fiambre”, a dish made with the leftover food from All Saints’ Day. It is believed that the souls of the dead come back to eat this food.
This day is also a time to remember and pray for those who have died in wars or natural disasters.
