History of Christmas Day in Armenia and How to Celebrate/ Observe It

Christmas Day in Armenia is a joyous occasion, full of family gatherings, feasting and gift giving. The day begins with a special morning church service, followed by a sumptuous feast. Traditional Armenian dishes such as khorovats (barbecued pork), khash (a thick stew made from cow’s feet), and bozbash (a lamb and vegetable soup) are served, washed down with plenty of Armenian brandy!

After lunch, families exchange gifts and enjoy each other’s company. Many Armenians also attend a midnight mass service on Christmas Eve, which ends just before midnight on Christmas Day.
