History of Commonwealth Day in Gibraltar and How to Celebrate/ Observe It

Commonwealth Day is celebrated in Gibraltar on the second Monday in March. The day commemorates the signing of the Gibraltar Constitution Order in 1969, which granted self-government to the people of Gibraltar. The day is also a celebration of the Commonwealth of Nations, of which Gibraltar is a member. On Commonwealth Day, the Union Jack is flown at half-mast and a wreath is laid at the Cenotaph in John Mackintosh Square. A service is held at St. Mary’s Cathedral, followed by a parade to Main Street. The Governor of Gibraltar and the Chief Minister of Gibraltar take part in the parade, which is led by the Gibraltar Defense Force Band.
