In Germany, Europe Day is celebrated on May 9th. This date was chosen because it marks the anniversary of the “Schuman Declaration”. This declaration was made by the French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman in 1950. In it, he proposed that the European Coal and Steel Community be created. This community was the forerunner of the European Union.
