On December 6th, Germans celebrate St. Nicholas Day, or Nikolaustag. This holiday commemorates the life of Saint Nicholas, a Christian saint who was known for his generosity. On this day, children leave their shoes out in hopes that St. Nicholas will fill them with candy and small gifts. In some regions of Germany, children also dress up as St. Nicholas and go door to door singing Christmas carols.
